No,no way. His showing on clay(the true test of a player's skills and strategy) was pretty poor compared to Roger Federer's.  If Roger were not playing against a phenomemom like Nadal, he would already have 3 RG titles.Sampras,like many American players,just muddled through RG and other clay court tournaments. His achievemnets,impressive as they are,are sorely incomplete!

Well, he has won the most Major titles so far, and he did compete in a very tough era. That said, "the greatest" is hard to define. There are so many criteria: competition, majors won, titles won, time spent at number one, playing style, etc. Personal preference also plays a part. Just as Pete's fans say he's the best, Borg's supporters won't be convinced that anyone was better than the Swede. There also other strong contenders: Laver, Tilden, and Federer (whose career is still going on). Given that Agassi is the only player to win all four Majors on three different surfaces, and that he's also won the Olympics, Davis Cup and World Championships, he has an argument too. All that is for sure is that Sampras is one of the greatest players ever to pick up a racket.

I agree that Pete could beat anybody when he was at the top of his game.Why  his serve.Pete was unbeatable when he got his first serve in at a high percentage.Best of all time.He gets my vote.
