Peter Alliss receives Golf Foundation award
Peter Alliss was presented the ‘Spirit of Golf’ by the Golf Foundation. The award is a recognition of Alliss’ efforts in making golf accessible to young people.
Alliss is in very illustrious company. The previous recipients of the award include Gary Player, Tony Jacklin, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Ernie Els. He is the sixth winner of the award.
The award is presented by the Golf Foundation and is considered to be a prestigious award given to people who promote the sport among the young people. Alliss is a well-known sports presenter and a very good player himself.
The award was presented by the President of the Golf Foundation, Colin Montgomerie, in front of an excited audience. The Foundation appreciated the role that Alliss has played in bringing the sport to the youth.
Alliss has also been instrumental in supporting various golf related events. Indeed, Alliss is one of the sports presenters who have a keen interest in the sport beyond the glamour of pro golf.
He has organized a couple of tournaments for the youth and his style of commentary and analysis has found him many fans in the age bracket that is not usually associated with golf.
Talking about this role, the President of the Golf Foundation, Colin Montgomerie said, “It is a privilege to present this award to Peter, for encouraging so many watching golfers and bringing a great sense of fun and excitement through all his commentaries
at major golf events”.
Alliss is also an influential supporter of the programs of the Golf Foundation. The charity aims to transform lives of the young people through golf, a noble aim that has the support of many golf personalities.
One of the most important programs of the Golf Foundation is the HSBC Golf Roots programme. This is a week-long event that will be a highlight of the Open Championship week.
Alliss and other supporters believe that the sport of golf is one of the most important ways young people can turn their lives around.
