Peter Chen beats Rob Batty in Men’s Singles clash at New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012
New Zealand’s Peter Chen, who is representing North Harbour II, showed his impressive performance and overpowered Rob Batty of Auckland II at the New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012 at Hamilton, New Zealand, on Friday, August 10.
The in-form Peter, who has been proving his mettle on court, worked to his maximum potential while playing against Rob and managed to grab victory after a hard-fought battle in which both contestants played top class badminton.
The impressive Peter played well but failed to take the first set. However, he surprised everyone by showing his tremendous class in the following games and won the match in three sets with a good remarkable margin.
In the meanwhile, Rob showed aggression in the opening set and grabbed it with a tight margin. However, he failed to maintain his elevated performance in the following game lost the match with a reasonable score.
The first game was entertaining when both shuttlers put up strong show by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level.
They played with aggression and did not miss any chance to end up rallies. Until the break, they were close as no one could earn a reasonable lead.
After the interval, Rob increased his speed and started to take control of rallies. In the meanwhile, Peter failed to put up strong show and lost the set with a close 19-21 margin on the board.
In the following set, it was Peter who took over the control this time as he played attacking badminton while remaining focused on court. Until the break, he set up a reasonable lead on the board.
After the break, Rob tried to narrow the gap but failed to stop the progress of Peter who eventually took the game with a 21-16 score on the board.
The deciding game was absolutely stunning when Peter showed his lofty skills and delivered a staggering performance.
Peter controlled the pace of rallies from the opening points and maintained his upper hand all the way to end up the set with a stunning margin of 21-6.
The impressive Peter emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles fight with an interesting 19-21, 21-16 and 21-6 score on the board.
