Peter Chiarelli discusses the status of several Boston Bruins players
If there is one team that has bit bitten by the injury bug, it’s the Boston Bruins. Several of their key players have been lost to long-term injuries, such as centre Marc Savard and left-winger
Marco Sturm.
On Tuesday, 9 November, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli gave some updates regarding the two injured forwards, and also about the placement of enforcer Brian McGrattan on waivers.
“Nothing [new] beyond that...I talked to him [Monday] morning, and he’s starting to feel like he’s in good shape,” Chiarelli told the Bruins’ official website.
“There haven’t been any lingering side effects that we talked about early on in his rehab. He was in very good spirits, and I wouldn’t say he’s chomping at the bit yet, but I would say
we’re almost at that corner to turn around. To me he seemed in good shape and good spirits, but again, timetables are difficult. I wouldn’t say he’s close, but he’s getting there.”
Regarding Sturm, Chiarelli mentioned that he and Savard have been doing some workouts, and that Sturm may be ready to return in early December.
“Yeah, I spoke with him...and I saw two or three of their workouts last week and [Sturm and Savard] both looked good at the workouts,” Chiarelli said. “Again, I don’t want to really hammer
down a timetable or time frame, but my guess is maybe the first week, first 10 days of December.”
Chiarelli also commented on McGrattan’s recent placement on waivers. He believes that the right-winger could benefit from some time with the Providence Bruins, Boston’s American Hockey
League affiliate.
“I felt it was time for him to go down there. We put him on a conditioning assignment last week and frankly, it was just something that I thought we might have needed to start the year.
“I’m not saying we still won’t need him, because I spoke with him and there’s a good chance he’ll be back, but it was time to put him down [in order to] get him off the cap for one thing.
We’ll see where it goes from there.”
The Bruins will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, 10 November.
