Peter Dahlberg grabs a share of the lead at the Fubon Senior Open
Sweden’s Peter Dahlberg fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the Fubon Senior Open in Taiwan, to take the share of the lead, on Friday, November 9, 2012.
The European Senior Tour event is being played at the Miramar Golf and Country Club, and is the last event before the season finale, the MCB Tour Championship, starts next month.
Since 2008, it was Dahlberg’s best round in any of the Seniors Tour’s event. Therefore, he was really pleased with his performance, as it gave him hope of winning the first ever Seniors Tour’s title of his career.
The Swede got off to a flying start by recording birdies on two of the first three holes that he played. He then added another two shots on the sixth and the ninth hole to reach the turn in four-under.
The back nine of the course also witnessed him play a flawless game. Later on, he gained shots on the 12th and the 14th hole to finish the day on top of the leaderboard.
The two-time winner this season, Tim Thelen, was another player who matched his score to share the top position.
Andrew Murray, in the meantime, shared the second position JD Kim, after posting a five-under par 67.
“I’m feeling great,” said Dahlberg. “A round like that has been a long time coming. It sounds silly to say it but it just seemed easy. I only missed one fairway and three greens and every time I missed a green, I got up and down”.
He added, “My two playing partners were joking with me that I prefer long putts because I holes those two big ones but I also missed four putts from within five feet so they must be right!. My irons were really good today and was driving very nicely”.
Talking to the tour’s official website, he also revealed that he entered the week with an aim of making it into the top-70 in the Seniors Tour Order of Merit.
According to the tour policy, the top-70 players in the Order of Merit will skip the first stage of the Qualifying School this season.
