Peter Ebdon aiming to add another World Snooker Championship title in his career
Former World Snooker Champion from England, the veteran Peter Ebdon was able to defeat Scotland’s Stephen Maguire by a close score line of 10-9. The Englishman clinched his first major ranking title in three years and second China Open title of his career.
The new Chinese Champion is now aiming to win the upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield before he finishes the season.
The 41-year-old Ebdon played outstandingly in the first two sessions of the final match of 2012 China Open at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena. However, the next two sessions brought a tough time for the match leader and he failed to maintain
his lead against the Scotsman who pulled level at 8-8 at the end of fourth session.
The tussle began between both potters after 16 frames as they were looking to grab the lead until the finish of the match. But they ended up at 9-9 winning one frame each and pushed the game into the decider frame where Ebdon triumphed over the Scottish
cueman and won the title. He has grabbed a tremendous amount of confidence after winning the title and is now looking to perform the same way in the World Snooker Championship.
The 2012 China Open winner spoke to the World Snooker after his victory, “I'd love to get to the World Championship - I'm not in the top 16 anymore so I've got to play a qualifying match. So that'll be tough, but my preparation this season is coming along
nicely. I'm just one of a handful of players that seem to be coming into form at the right time.”
He added, “It's fantastic to win the tournament, and I tried so, so hard while I was here. I'd love to win my qualifying match and get back to the Crucible. I think it would be my 21st consecutive appearance in Sheffield. That's something to be very proud
of, if I can do it.”
The World Number 21 is placed in the final round of the World Championship qualifying session and needs only one victory to book a spot in the first round of the mega event. Should he manage to make it into the televised stages of the Championship, he will
be meeting Wales’ Matthew Stevens.
