Peter Ebdon beats Neil Robertson in second round: Bank of Beijing China Open 2011
Current World Snooker champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson crashed out of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 on Thursday, 31st March. He was beaten 5-1 by 2009 China Open winner, Peter Ebdon at the Peking University Students Gymnasium in Beijing.
Ebdon will next meet compatriot Judd Trump in the quarter-finals.
The second-round affair between world champion Robertson and 2009 UK Championship winner, Ebdon was completely dominated by the Englishman.
The first frame took a while to finish as both players fought hard, before Ebdon eventually clinched it 64-19 to take a 1-0 lead. Ebdon then extended his one-frame lead to 2-0 after taking the second frame. He potted a beautiful 85 break after he was 1-33
down to take the frame 86-33.
Robertson gave a four-point foul at 8-9 frame score in the third frame and let the former World Snooker champion Ebdon take control of the game. The 40-year-old Ebdon produced a stunning 64 break to grab the frame 76-9 and lead 3-0.
The 2010 World Champion, Robertson had been struggling from the start of the match, as he failed to unsettle his opponent. Ebdon continued to dominate the match in the fourth frame too. A decent break of 42 from Ebdon brought him 4-0 up as he won the fourth
frame 73-23.
That was when the 29-year-old Robertson finally found his rhythm. He played an outstanding 80-point break and grabbed his first-frame victory. The single frame win for Robertson could not however, save him from crashing out of the China Open 2011, as the
2000 British Open winner Ebdon took the sixth and the last frame of the match 78-57.
The frame scores of the match were 64-19, 86-33, 76-9, 73-23, 0-80 and 78-57.
Peter Ebdon will play against England’s Judd Trump in the quarter-final of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011. The match will take place on Friday, 1st April at the Peking University Students Gymnasium in Beijing.
Shaun Murphy and Stephen Lee have also qualified for the quarter-final stage. They defeated Li Hang and Ryan Day respectively.
