Peter Ebdon books semi-final spot after trashing Neil Robertson in quarters of 2012 China Open
Quarter-final clash between the two former World Snooker Champions, England’s Peter Ebdon and Australia’s Neil Robertson, was one of the long lasting matches of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament as the pair took three hours and 41 minutes to reach the
final scores where Ebdon was victorious over the Australian by the score line of 5-3.
As both otters were playing sensibly during the game because one mistake from any one could end up in a brutal loss. However, the game was quite tussling in the first session and half of the second in the contest. The encounter seemed uncertain before Ebdon
cruised into back-to-back frame wins after 3-3 level to claim the victory.
The first session of the quarter-final game finished as the 2012 Masters snooker tournament winner, Robertson finished the fourth frame in his favour to equalise the scoreboard 2-2. The spectators at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena witnessed
the next two frames of the second session also finishing with 3-3 levels.
After that, the Thunder from Down Under, Robertson failed to continue his good form and slipped down in the next two frames to let Ebdon take the proceedings easily by 5-3. Despite winning the match with two frames, Ebdon did not seem to be happy with his
own game play.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Ebdon said, “To be perfectly honest I was very disappointed with the way I played in that match. I don't honestly believe I that I deserved to win that game and if Neil had taken his chances I think he would've
beaten me 5-0 or 5-1 this evening.”
The former champ added, “It got a bit bogged down and there was a lot of safety, and in parts we played some very good safety. I'm delighted to win but disappointed with the way I played.”
Ebdon will next meet the 2012 Welsh Open winner and the local favourite, Ding Junhui who received a walkover on his match against the World Number one Mark Selby and a tremendous victory over the former World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Ali
Carter in the quarters.
