Peter Ebdon ecstatic after winning semi-final clash against Ding Junhui: 2012 China Open
After three years, the former World Snooker Champion from England, Peter Ebdon has made his way into the final clash of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament after ousting the 2012 Welsh Open winner China’s Ding Junhui.
The Englishman is quite happy to beat the Chinese potter at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena and believes he can perform better in the finals against Scotland’s Stephen Maguire.
The semi-final clash was quite tussling in the beginning as Junhui pushed the Englishman under a lot of pressure when he cruised into a two frame lead at 1-3 at the end of the first session. However, the former China Open winner did not accept any possibilities
of tumbling down against the Chinese and hit back brilliantly in the next two sessions to clinch the victory by 6-3.
Ebdon fired into five consecutive frame victories compiling outstanding breaks of 54, 69, and 68 to step up at 6-3 triumph. Junhui, on the other hand, was unable to capitalise back during the later part of the match and was left with regret of not performing
up to the mark. Ebdon was the happiest person in the world as he surged into first final in the current season.
Speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Ebdon said, “I'm absolutely delighted, it's my first final for a long time. Without any shadow of doubt, that would be one of the best wins of my career. Partly because of how much respect I have for Ding. He's
a very nice young man, and he's one of the most gifted snooker players I've ever seen.”
He added, “I'm very pleased to beat him in China, in front of his home crowd, and have to play well, really well, especially since he played almost faultless snooker before the interval. I've had quite a long career now, 20 years, I think this is my 21st
season, but that would definitely be one of the best wins in my career.”
Ebdon will next meet the former China Open winner, Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the final encounter at the Beijing venue. He is aiming to hit the final win to clinch his first title of the season.
