Peter Ebdon is very positive player, says Rod Lawler – Snooker Update
In order to remove ‘boring’ and ‘slow’ tags from the game, the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) made some drastic changes in the playing format of some existing snooker events. Besides, they also introduced
some new snooker events with faster playing formats so that the players as well as the viewers can enjoy the game more.
These new snooker tournaments with faster formats include the Snooker Shootout and Power Snooker. With these events in the calendar, those potters who have slower playing style get in trouble during their play. They are used to take some time before executing
a shot while in these two events, it is just ‘think and play’ game.
Many new snooker players are quick in thinking their shot and playing it while in the legends, the reigning World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan has a fast playing style and even has won both events during his career. Things get problematic
for slow natured players like Rod Lawler and former World Snooker Champion Peter Ebdon.
But Lawler believes that he used to be a slow player but he has improved now and can play in fast formatted events. As far as Ebdon is concerned, according to Lawler, he is a positive player who takes time making his move.
In a recent interview with Pro Snooker Blog, Lawler said, “He is very positive, he will never refuse a shot that can get him in to win the match. But Peter might be playing Ronnie and taking 24 seconds a shot and Ronnie might be taking 17. Peter sees the
shot at that pace and I am in that bracket with the likes of Alan McManus, Dave Harold, Fergal O’Brien, those types of players.”
He added, “Somebody like Peter Ebdon sees that same shot slower than Ronnie and is a lot more deliberate. I am obviously in the Peter Ebdon timescale and I don’t deny that, but you do need variance.”
Lawler has been a consistent performer in the 2012-13 Snooker Season and has made his way into the advanced stages of important tournaments which shoes he is in full swing and can bounce back into a tremendous form.
