Peter Ebdon manages to beat Shaun Murphy in quarters of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Snooker fans present at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria witnessed a superb display of true snooker skills when two legends battled against each other to book a place in the semi-final stage of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament.
The arena was houseful to see the action as the two big guns of the game showed their class at the baize.
The former World Snooker Championship winner and the winner of the 2012 China Open, England’s Peter Ebdon was up against the former World Snooker Champion, compatriot Shaun Murphy in the quarter-final stage and gave the last of his skills to hardly beat
the Magician by the score line of 5-4. As expected, the match-up was one of the most tussling and toughest encounters of the tournament where Ebdon barely survived the tremendous game-play of Murphy.
After the match, Ebdon spoke to World Snooker, “Another tough match. Obviously Shaun is an absolutely world-class player, former UK, former World champion and I knew it was going to be tough. Even though neither of us really played to the best of our ability,
it was still a very tough match and I think that in parts Shaun was cueing beautifully.”
He added, “There was some very good safety from both of us. I'm absolutely delighted to come through another deciding frame match.”
Both Murphy and Ebdon were two of the contenders to clinch the Aussie event title as both of them performed convincingly in the event. Hitting the quarter-final stage really proved their dominance in the game and their true class.
From the beginning, the game started to get thrilling because the pair gave no room to each other to tumble down. The first session of the clash was tussling because it finished at 2-2 with the production of tremendous knocks. The second session of the match
went the same way which brought them on 4-4 level after Murphy grabbed the eighth frame to drag the game into the decisive frame. Ebdon took the final set to claim his quarter-final triumph by 5-4.
Peter will be happy with his performance as he managed to take a tremendous victory over Murphy to advance in the tournament.
