Peter Ebdon plays Barry Hawkins in final of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
Former World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 China Open winner, England’s Peter Ebdon performed tremendously in the semi-final encounter of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event and was able to claim the final encounter spot after beating
Hong Kong’s Marco Fu by the score line of 6-2.
The Englishman was outstanding at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria baize and showed his class to confirm his seat in the final game of the event.
The English potter started brilliantly in the first session of the match and claimed four frames in reply to Fu’s one frame win. At the end of fifth frame, Ebdon was leading the match by the score line of 4-1. In his only frame win, Fu fired a superb knock
of 108 points. Ebdon, on the other hand, compiled some impressive clearances which brought him on top of the score-board.
In the second session of the event, Ebdon continued his dominance and claimed two more frames after Fu took his second frame victory. Ebdon’s victory has brought him against the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout event, compatriot Barry Hawkins in the ultimate
battle. Ebdon is feeling all set to face Hawkins with the objective to make an appearance and win the title.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Ebdon said, “It played like a completely new table, the balls were lighter and it was a pleasure to play on, but it found us out at various times. Marco was cueing the ball and timing the ball so well that
he was over-s******g a lot of things and it took him time to adjust.”
He added, “But the table was beautiful and I played really solid today and I'm really happy with that performance.”
The final clash between Ebdon and Hawkins will be thrilling and interesting because both potters have performed brilliantly from the beginning of the event and proved their class in the initial stages which brought them into the final of the contest. It
looks like both players are in good form and will be exciting to see both players battle it out for top honours.
