Peter Ebdon sets up Marco Fu semi-final clash: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Arena of Bendigo Stadium in Victoria was houseful when the two former World Snooker Championship winners, Peter Ebdon and Shaun Murphy entered to start their quarter-final clash.
The snooker world was hoping for a thrilling game because both cuemen were in tremendous shape from the beginning of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open. The pair produced some of the best snooker skills at the Bendigo Stadium arena baize in Victoria which
really thrilled the spectators.
Both potters were in tremendous form and began their run if the event with a superb snooker display. The first session of the match was quite interesting because the pair was in a struggle to get early lead. However, none of them could get any lead and the
first session finished at 2-2 level. Tremendous snooker breaks were fired from both ends.
The second session finished the same way with the duo claiming two frames each and dragged the match into the final decider frame. The final frame was another tough game but despite Murphy’s hard struggle, Ebdon swept the table to claim the match by 5-4.
The former World Snooker Championship winner will next meet Hong Kong’s Marco Fu in the semi-final encounter.
In his post match interview, Ebdon spoke about his next opponent, “Marco's a great player, he's playing very well, it's going to be another tough match. I feel as if I'm beginning to time the ball a bit better every match. It's lovely to be in the semi-final
again, the job's not done and I'd love to win another two matches.”
He further said about his win over Murphy, “I'm absolutely delighted to come through another deciding frame match. I tried hard and I was disappointed that I didn't take a couple of chances that I had early on in the final frame although they weren't exactly
straight forward.”
Ebdon has played against Fu before and is familiar with his abilities. He will be looking forward to nudge Fu down so that he can reserve his place in the final encounter. Fu, on the other hand, was impressive against Stephen Lee in the quarters and defeated
him by the score line of 5-1.
