Peter Ebdon trounces Ding Junhui in Round 2 of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
A close fight took place between the former World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Peter Ebdon and the winner of the 2012 Welsh Open snooker event, China’s Ding Junhui in the second round encounter of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open event.
After facing strong resistance from the Chinese cueman, Ebdon was able to claim the match victory by the score line of 5-4 and book his place in the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
The clash proceeded as expected because the pair was in full swing especially after earning noticeable triumphs in the first round of the event. At one point, the Chinese cueman put Ebdon under immense pressure but still the Englishman was able to get out
of the troubling situation to claim the eventual victory triumphing in the decisive frame.
The Star of the East had a superb start with a tremendous half century break of 50 points to earn an early lead in the first frame of the match. However, it did not affect the Englishman and he replied brilliantly with a 73-point clearance to win the first
frame and grab 1-0 lead. Junhui did not let it go easily and replied with a classy 129-point break in the second frame and pulled level at 1-1.
At the end of the first session of the match, both potters were neck-and-neck at 2-2. The clash looked like it could be anyone’s game and both potters were anxious to get a handsome lead. The first frame of the match finished in Junhui’s favour as he cruised
into one frame lead at 2-3.
Despite the fact that Ebdon was under immense pressure, he did not lose his focus and came back strong with back-to-back frame wins to hit 4-3 lead over the Chinese cueman. The Chinese Sensation claimed the eighth frame to equalise the scores again at 4-4
and pushed the game into the decider frame. Ebdon took the final frame with a tremendous break of 70 and emerged victorious.
So far, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event has produced some outstanding snooker events where leading potters, who were the favourites in the event, were unable to hold on to their victory and tumbled down. Besides, some rookies performed
brilliantly in their opening matches and trashed veteran cuemen to book their places in the second round stage.
