Peter Ebdon unhappy with defeat against Barry Hawkins in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Former World Snooker Championship winner and triumphant in the 2012 China Open snooker competition, England’s Peter Ebdon showed great determination during his campaign in the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
With some terrific wins in the initial round of the contest, he made his way straight to the final encounter of the event where he faced the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout, Barry Hawkins.
Despite his hard struggle and hard work in the final game, Ebdon was unable to unsettle his opponent, Hawkins who was comparatively less experienced. The former champ had no chance of getting back into the game when he dropped down 3-1 down at the end of
the first session of the match.
The Englishman did win the first frame which might have given him a lot of confidence but winning the first frame was not the victory. There was a lot to take care of which Ebdon failed to and Hawkins cleared the baize brilliantly in the session.
However, the second session did bring him back into the game as he clinched two frames but it was not enough because the Hawk claimed all four frames of the third session and hit the victory by 9-3. Loss in the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open was indeed
a disappointing situation for him.
He spoke to World Snooker after his match, “I didn't have a very good day at all today, nothing really went for me and I really struggled out there today in all departments and it's very disappointing. It's not often that would happen to me in a final but
every credit to Barry, I thought he played really, really well.”
The former champ added, “His all-round game was very good, he scored very heavily, his long-game was good, touch, feel, cue ball control, it was all there today.”
Ebdon is now looking to continue his good form and try his luck in the upcoming snooker events so that he can come in his real colours. He will be looking to improve his performance and become even more competitive as the new snooker season progresses.
