Peter Fowler finishes second at the MCB Tour Championship
Peter Fowler of Australia carded a four-under par 68 in the final round of the European Seniors Tour’s season-ending MCB Tour Championship, to finish tied for the second position on the leaderboard.
Barry Lane (70) was another player who shared the second position, after carding a 10-under par tournament score.
The event was being played at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius, featuring some of the prominent names on the Seniors Tour.
Right from the beginning of the event, the Australian showed consistency in his game, by carding 69s in each of the first two rounds.
Entering the final round, he was seven strokes behind the leader David Frost. The 2011 Order of Merit champion got off to a slow start, and carded a single birdie against a lone bogey on the front nine.
Meanwhile, Frost also lost control over his game and carded a triple bogey along with a double bogey during his round.
As a result, Fowler received a chance to make it to the top of the leaderboard. Therefore, he picked up pace and added another four shots to his scorecard on the back nine, to take the clubhouse lead with a 10-under par overall score.
Frost then made a comeback by carding birdies on the 15th and the 18th hole, to finish the week one stroke better than Fowler.
Later in the day, Lane also joined Fowler on the leaderboard, after he closed his round with an amazing eagle putt on the 18th hole.
Talking to the European Seniors Tour’s official website, Fowler expressed his disappointment in missing out on the chance of winning the third seniors’ title of his career.
In the meantime, he was also pleased to save his fourth position in the Seniors Tour Order of Merit.
“It’s been a long season and I was glad I could keep going,” he said. “Frosty was way out in front and I just had a bit too much to do. He had a few hiccups today which gave us a chance, but I should have birdied the last. I never thought about winning at
all as he was so far clear but it’s been another good year though”.
