Peter Gade furiously bids farewell to All England Open – Badminton news
The Danish maestro Peter Hoeg Gade was furious at Badminton World Federation (BWF) as he bid farewell to All England Open after debilitating delay in his first round match on March 7, 2012.
The veteran World Number four Dane was gracing the world’s oldest open for the last time and his plans of a splendid farewell were turned to dust when he lost to the British shuttler Rajiv Ouseph in his opening match.
The Danish ace Peter Gade opened fire at BWF as he had to wait for four hours before he said good-bye to the event in the early hours on Thursday with almost nobody watching him.
He said, “To finish in the first round at 2.30 in the morning in my last All-England is very disappointing. But no matter how crazy it sounds I expected this to happen. When you see they are planning only 35-40 minutes per match -- that's impossible. It
tells you everything. It shouldn't be possible to happen.”
The organisers planned the schedule with allocating 40 minutes to every match but most of the matches took more than the expected time as the longest one lasted for one hour and 28 minutes.
This caused the much criticised four-hour delay in first round matches and BWF came under severe criticism not from Peter Gade only but another big name Taufik Hidayat also lashed out at the organisers.
The Danish top player Peter Gade was suffering from foot injury so he could not sweat hard in practise sessions which resulted in first time ever defeat against the British player Rajiv Ouseph.
But he did not make his deficiency an excuse and praised his rival’s badminton skills.
Gade said, “I took a risk by coming here. I was down with a foot injury and hardly practised in the last one week. At this age, I am vulnerable (to injuries) and I have to be in the best condition to win. Ouseph played well.”
After facing an early exit in the All England Open, Peter Gade was determined to lift up his physical fitness and register his class in the upcoming mega event of London Olympics.
