Peter Gade intends to retire after 2012 London Olympics – Badminton News
Men’s Singles expert Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark has showed intentions to hang up his racket after gracing London Olympics which is scheduled to start from July 27, 2012.
World Number four shuttler Peter Gade is widely considered as one of the greatest player of the game. He holds the record of longest career, during which he has bagged 16 Grand Prix titles, as professional Singles player.
The Danish maestro believes that he has achieved all that one wishes and time has come when he should leave the court gracefully at the peak of his career.
Gade said, "I have to admit that I feel that this is the right time. I want to finish while I’m still in the top of the men’s singles not when I’m on the way down."
At the age of 35, he still enjoys prime level fitness and he has been in top ten players of the world for more than a decade. However, the Dane is honest enough to admit that now it is getting difficult for him to match the game speed of present era.
He told that he has been thinking to retire for last couple of years and he firmly believes that now it is right time to ground his flight and get back to his nest.
Gade said, "The past couple of years and also recently my body and mind is telling me that it’s time to stop, most importantly I have two girls at home and I want to spend some more time with them."
In the recent past, badminton ace Peter Gade was overpowered by some young and inexperienced players which showed that he has come to an age where abilities start descending gradually and probably this was the reason he decided to bid farewell right after
London Games.
However, he will be gracing the India Open before his last appearance in the Olympics and he is confident to prove his worth in New Delhi.
Gade said, "Of course I hope for a good result and I’ll do my utmost to get my game going."
The veteran Dane also asserted that new talent should be promoted and hoped that the youngsters like Viktor Axelsen and Jan O Jorgensen will shoulder their responsibility to raise the country’s flag across the globe.
