Peter Gentle appointed new head coach of Hull FC – Rugby League news
Peter Gentle has been appointed Hull FC’s new coach to succeed their departing coach, Richard Agar, today.
His appointment was proposed by Hull’s latest, director of rugby, Shaun McRae.
While speaking about his move to Hulls, Gentle said, “I'm delighted to take over as head coach at Hull FC and the chance to test myself in Super League. It is a really exciting challenge for me and my family.”
He further acknowledged that to be able to take up this opportunity at Hull will be a source of honour and prestige for him.
This is going to be Hulls’ first Super League experience about which he seemed pretty much excited. Prior to this, he was coaching National Rugby League (NRL)’s West Tigers and the Australian outfit. However, in order to take up head coach’s prestigious
position at Hulls, he has quitted his previous two jobs at Australia.
Gentle had already released a three-candidate-shortlist, soon after Agar’s confirmation regarding his move to the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats was made. Nothing more than the number of people on that shortlist was disclosed by McRae.
However, the news already in speculation about McRae’s pick to replace Agar was that, Gentle is the director of rugby’s first choice, which was never confirmed by him until today.
Explaining the process of reaching the best pick for Hulls’ head coach position, McRae stated, “There is no surprise that a club like Hull FC would be such an attractive proposition to any coach, so we have given this decision careful consideration, not
just on each candidate's coaching pedigree, history and achievements, but what they are like as people and their passion for the job and the game.”
Further explaining his pick, McRae seemed happy over harnessing the services of one of the best coaches available. He agreed that Gentle has the capability of taking Hulls to another level.
He also admitted that the process to choose a suitable fit for a prestigious club like Hull, enriched which history and heritage was a task which was nonetheless very rigorous in nature.
