Peter Gojowczyk defeats Thiemo de Bakker in the second qualifying round – Australian Open 2012
German tennis ace, Peter Gojowczyk, dumped the 23-years-old Dutch, Thiemo de Bakker, to move into the final qualifying round of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Saturday. It was a completely on-sided encounter, which didn’t
last long enough as anticipated and was finished in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 with the inferior ranked competitor taking the final qualifying round berth.
It was the fourth battle between the two contestants and the German compiled a 3-1 head-to-head lead after this win. He just lost the first match against Bakker in Nov 2006 during the Israel F4. Gojowczyk had his revenge after
two months in Germany F3 and doubled his lead in Manerbio Challenger 2011. This was the third consecutive occasion when the German had ousted the Dutch tennis ace in a singles encounter.
First two games were held by the respective players as the match kicked off in sloppy fashion. First break was bagged by the German, which helped him build the initial lead. He didn’t look back from there and continued thumping
his opponent on his own serves. He capitalized on his serves and did the basics right. Such a comprehensive performance dismantled the confidence of her opponent.
The German continued his onslaught and broke once again in the fifth game; pure display of domination and strength was witnessed. Consecutive three breaks earned the German a cracking triumph over his opponent in the first set.
Trailing one set down, the Dutch was completely knocked out from his comfort zone and he seemed overwhelmed by the brilliant performance of his opponent.
Second set started in the same manner and the momentum continued to grow for the German. He held his serve and broke serve in the second to take 2-0 lead; another successful serve game earned him the 3-0 lead. Finally his opponent
managed to hang on to his serve in the fourth game but that was the only thing he could take from this set; apart from that game it was all about Gojowczyk.
With another break in the sixth game, the German consolidated his position and held his serve to finish off the proceedings. He plays the French contestant, Florent Serra, in the last qualifying round.
