Peter Grant back for Stormers – Super Rugby update
Stormers and Allister Coetzee have been boosted by the comeback of Peter Grant, the starting line fly half, in the squad for the opening clash of Super 15.
Grant’s opponent side Suntory Sunoliath and Eddie Jones, its coach, have done a huge favour to Stormers by thrashing Grant’s team the Kobe Kobelco Steelers in Japan Championship’s semi finals on Saturday. Steeler’s defeat meant that Grant will be available
for Stormers in the opening match of Super Rugby and will return to Cape town in time to fulfill his Super duties.
Coetzee is overjoyed to have the backbone back for the fixture on coming Saturday against John Mitchell’s lethal Lion’s team at Newlands. It will be a blessing for Stormers to be going in the battlefield with their confidence high.
Peter Grant is a young 26-year-old South African rugby player who mostly plays as a fly half. He started his rugby by representing Western province in 2004 and has earned 55 caps in the process and scored 281 points. He became part of professional club Kobe
Kobelco Steelers in 2010 and is with the club to date. The 6 ft 1 in fly half played for Stormers from 2006 till 2010 and has earned 62 caps for the club and scored 533 points overall. He made his international debut for Springboks in 2007 and has played five
tests for the national side since then.
Coetzee seems positive about the development and has full confidence in his squad. Stormers are supposed have a winning start in order to avoid past mistakes.
While talking to media about his expectations and fears against Lions he said, “That is a worry as the Lions will have had a bloodthirsty 80 minutes against the Bulls behind them, but it is something we have been functioning on managing.”
Stormers took a week’s break prior to the match and are now back to the training camps for the build-up.
Coetzee added, “It’s a difficult one for while the players do have to rest when the bye week comes because this is going to be such a long season, they are also all anxious to get the season started.”
