Peter Grant fails to become fourth fastest South African to score 100 points in 5th game
Peter Grant was unable to achieve a personal milestone of becoming the 4th fastest South African player to score 100 points in his 5th game against their game with the Sharks, played at Kings Parks in Durban.
However, his contributions in match were enough for Stormers to achieve a victory in Kings Parks since 2004.
Stormers Fly Half Peter Grant who is yet to score a try in the season was again carried the burden to Stormers scoring by scoring  11 points of the total 16 points Stormers managed to score over their 16 – 6 victory over the sharks. Grant started the match
following the 17 points to become the fourth fastest player to score 100 points in the 100th match.
The list contains likes of former Sharks fullback Gavin Lawless, Former Lions fullback Gavin Johnson, current Bulls Fly Half Morne Steyn. Gavin Lawless is residing at the top of list with him scoring 100 points in just four games however both Gavin Johnson and
Morne Steyn achieved the same in their fifth games.
Lawless achieved this record in 1997 season by scoring 50 points against Highlanders, 15 against Brumbies (15), 15 against Free State (15) and 23 against the Waratahs (23). Johnson also achieved the record in 1997 when he scored a total of 102 points.
He scored 10 points against Free State, 19 points against Brumbies, 32 points against Highlanders, 26 points against Waratahs and 15 points against Hurricanes. Morne Steyn was later added to list during the 2010 season as he piled up 106 points in his first
five matches. He scored 24 points against Cheetahs, 35 points against Brumbies, 15 points against Highlanders, 18 points against Waratahs and 14 points against Hurricanes.
Peter Grant is this season top scorer so far by scoring 94 points in the five games he has played. He is yet to score a try this season and has achieved this fest with 08 conversions and 26 penalties, with 3 penalties and a conversion coming in his last
game with Sharks. He needed a total of 17 points but was only able to manage 11.
Grant has made his appearance from bench against the Lions scoring 5 points in the game scoring a penalty and conversion each. In his second match against the Cheetahs he scored 7 penalties and scored all the 21 points for the Stormers in the game. He again
scored all 18 points against the Highlanders with his 6 penalties.
Against Bulls, he scored 18 points out of the 23 points scored by the Stormers, with Grant contributing again with 06 penalties. In Stormers massive victory over Western Force (51 – 16) he scored 21 points with scoring 6 conversions and 3 penalties.
Grant would have a better chance to reach the milestone if he started the play against the Lions. Peter Grant purpose would be better served if he had scored a try or two in the earlier matches as the Sharks with their defence are never an easy opponent
to score a try on.
Stormers are yet to be beaten in Super XV and Peter Grant’s performance in their matches is very integral to this achievement. Grant has been able to score when rest of attack was falling apart; his presence on field has a calming influence and remains the
spear head of the Stormers attack.
