Peter Grant to be replaced by Lionel Cronje – Super Rugby update
Peter Grant the playmaker and the showstopper’s absence has been confirmed by the Stormers’ officials. Grant will be unavailable for the upcoming fixture at Newlands with Sharks in a Super Rugby affair.
Peter Grant is the top scorer for his club in this year’s Super Rugby campaign and has been a backbone behind all the victories so far. He picked up a knee injury in previous and failed to pass the fitness test that he underwent.
The coach will be looking for a suitable replacement as a fly half. Gary van Aswegen, the fly half is one of those who got injured, but most preferred after Grant. If not Aswegen then we will be expecting Lionel Cronje the 22 year old fly half. This will
be the most important game of his career if he gets it. Its most probable that he will get the opportunity to play as Aswegen doesn’t look in shape to show up either.
Inclusion of Cronje would mean there will be vacancy at bench, which Kurt Coleman will be filling in. Coleman has been impressive in his Vodacom Cup matches and might get a second half opportunity to pop in and display is skills.
Lionel Cronje is a South African rugby union player who started his career with Western Province in 2010 and has earned 1 caps for the side and scored 28 points. He was signed by the Stormers the same year and has won two caps for them. The 6ft 0.5 in fly
half is a young entry to the side and has a promising future in the club.
He made his debut entrance into the Super Rugby affair two weeks ago against Lions, when he came in for Van Aswegen at Johannesburg in 13th minute for the Stormers. He could not really prove his actual worth in these appearances, but his presence at training
has been impressive according to the coach. Cronje needs to prove his medal at this level, as a few tough tests are coming, including one against Sharks and another one against Newlands.
Opposing him would be Patrick Lambie, who has been a vital reason for Sharks’ victory at the Currie Cup final. Lambie has an experience of Tests and tough matches.
