Peter Hanson outclassed, but Francesco Molinari secures half a point against Tiger Woods
Peter Hanson was up against a very stubborn Jason Dufner. Dufner was in no mood to let the Ryder Cup slip away from American hands.
Team USA had one chance to secure the Ryder Cup after Saturday but a poor show in the singles meant that they lose the Ryder Cup once again.
Hanson and Dufner, however, played a very entertaining match, which saw a great deal of action. Jason was in sizzling form and he started of brilliantly, taking the lead just after the 3rd hole.
By the time the two were done with the 8th hole, the American was already 4-Up. A mammoth effort was needed by the Swede to pull up something. However, he faltered a little towards the end, losing 2-Up.
The Swede won the three consecutive holes from the 10th to the 12th to have some chance of rescuing a point. However, Jason Dufner immediately set things straight by winning the 13th.
Hanson needed to win the 18th to get half a point from the match but a bogey meant that Dufner earned one full point for his team.
"It's hard not to get up in front of these fans with so much at stake in the singles match," said Dufner.
"I made a couple nice putts there that kind of got me fired up a little bit. So this is a really fun environment to play in. Excited to get that point today for the team, and going to go back and cheer the guys on, and hopefully can get another point and
a half and get this thing done with".
Tiger Woods’ poor run of form in the Ryder Cups continued at Chicago as well. The former world number one only managed to earn half a point out of a possible four for his team.
The Americans were counting on Tiger but he let them down once again. He was in a commanding position against Francesco Molinari as well. Nevertheless, he let that lead slip right at the end.
Tiger bogeyed the 18th hole and that meant that Molinari earned half a point for his team. If Tiger had won this match, USA would have snatched the Cup from the hands of Europeans but it was not to be so.
