Peter Hanson posts his strongest major championship finish at Masters

Swede Peter Hanson did all the right things to bag his first major title at Augusta National last week, but his cold putter pulled him back on the final day, where he settled for his highest major finish of his career-a joint third.
Hanson, who opened up his Masters bid with an impressive four-under on the first day, fell for a disappointing second round of two-over, 74.
He shot back with style on the third day, carding a magnificent round of seven-under, 65, something which is highly unlikely on a tough layout like Augusta.
Hoping to capitalise on his gains the previous day, Hanson hoped for his first major title at the 76th Masters but a sloppy one-over, 73 sublimed his ambitions.
Hanson said, “It was a pretty tough day for us. I didn’t get off to a great start with two bogeys. I was struggling with the greens as they were a little bit quicker. I think it was a good test. Like I said yesterday, it was a good test of emotion being out, how I can handle myself. It felt like it worked out pretty good, but like I said, I think your weaknesses show a little bit when you come under pressure”.
Hanson was paired with Phil Mickelson in the final round and relished playing alongside the three-time Masters winner.
He added, “It was nice, there’s a bit of nerves for everybody. I enjoyed playing with Phil”.
Hanson fell for disappointing bogeys at the start of the day and was never able to recover from the early loss.
He made the turn two-over and fell for yet another on the back nine at par-three, 12th. He carded two birdies on the closing holes of the back nine to finish eight-under, on the aggregate, trailing the leaders by two shots.
Regardless of the loss Hanson insists that he had a great learning opportunity at the sprawling Augusta National.
This was Hanson’s second appearance at the coveted event. The Ryder Cup star made his debut at Masters last year where he failed to make the halfway cut.
Hanson has won no fewer than 10 professional titles with four of them coming on the European Tour.
