Peter Hanson sights the number one spot in The Race to Dubai
Last week, Peter Hanson clinched the fifth European Tour victory of his career at the KLM Open and moved to the top-10 in The Race to Dubai.
He now aims to surge to the top of the rankings by replacing Rory McIlroy, who has enjoyed a great season this year.
While talking to the European Tour’s official website, he told that, despite having a difference of €1,131, 869 against McIlroy in the money list, he still can catch him by a late charge in the season.
Even if he fails to achieve his target, he wants to remain in the top-10 at the end of the DP World Tour Championship in November.
“I’m going to play a lot on The European Tour all the way up to the Dubai. I’m playing the Dunhill Links and the two in China leading up to the finale in Dubai,” he said.
By doing so, he will automatically qualify for the share of the US$3,750,000 Bonus pool offered to the top-10 players in The Race to Dubai.
According to him, he has brought a number of improvements in his game in the past few months. The victory last week was the result of his continuous efforts.
Moreover, it was the perfect time for a win, as it will give him a boost in a bid to prepare for the Ryder Cup, scheduled to start from September 28, 2012.
“My game is getting better and better and it was such a confidence boost to win just two weeks before the Ryder Cup,” Hanson said.
“I’ve moved up quite a bit in The Race to Dubai as a result of this victory and if I can put myself in a position towards the end of the year to maybe have a chance of reaching the top guys like Rory and Justin Rose that would be fantastic”.
If he succeeds in reaching the top of the European Tour’s money list, he will become the second Swede player to reach that mark. Robert Karlsson was the first one who finished as Europe’s Number One in 2008.
