Peter Hanson turns down the invitation to participate in the Barclays Singapore Open
Peter Hanson has turned down the invitation to participate in the Barclays Singapore Open, after citing tiredness, and returned to his home in Florida.
The European Tour event will be staged at the Sentosa GC, Singapore, from November 8 to 11, 2012.
Hanson currently ranks second in The Race to Dubai and was enjoying a great form on the tour. He won two of the last four European Tour events and made a strong charge on the money list.
Last week, he participated in the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions and finished tied for the 24th spot on the leaderboard.
Therefore, he was a real threat to the money-list leader Rory McIlroy. However, Hanson’s withdrawal from the event will provide a chance to McIlroy to further strengthen his position in the standings.
"I've been on the road three weeks now since playing the India Open, and that's a long enough time to be away from my young family and they're more important," the Swede said.
Talking to the media, he stated that it was disappointing to exclude the upcoming two events from his schedule. However, he still was pleased with the way he finished his 2012 campaign on the European Tour.
He also praised the way McIlroy has played throughout the season and believes that the world number one deserves to finish the European Tour season as the best player on the tour.
"It's disappointing that it won't sort of add spice to these next two events but then given the season I've had ...to win three out of four, I have to be very happy,” he said.
He added, "In the bigger picture, I still have plenty of years to win the Race to Dubai and besides, given the way Rory has played this year, I feel as though he deserves to end the year No. 1”.
McIlroy, in the meantime, is relishing the opportunity to make his debut at the Barclays Singapore Open.
