Peter Hoeg Gade beats Taufik Hidayat in quarter-final of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
Denmark’s veteran shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, defeated Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat, on his home soil in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series. The encounter was held in Jakarta, on June 24, 2011.
The 34-year-old Peter Gade played with an incredible pace against the Indonesian, who was not playing well as he was slow in his movements. The Danish finished up the straight-set match by taking 40 minutes of court time.
After winning this match, World Number Five, Gade, levelled the points table in his head-to-head encounters with Taufik, as both shuttlers have won 9-9 clashes so far.
The indoor stadium was packed with the local crowd who came to watch Taufik playing against Peter Gade. Both players put up a wonderful show of top-class badminton, as both have an extensive experience of the game. The score remained close in the first-half
of this superb match between the two most renowned shuttlers in the world of badminton.
In the second part of the opening set, the Danish worked well by playing positively as he made no error in the concluding phase of the set and won it by a 21-17 margin, in 21 minutes.
World Number Two, Taufik, was clearly lacking the spark in his movement on the court, as he seemed tired because of the tough matches he played in the first and second round of the event. In the second game, the score was 13-13, where the Danish controlled
the rallies by playing more accurately at the net. Gade did not allow his challenger to make any sort of impact on the game.
Taufik hit many points out of the court, which helped Peter Gade to finish up the second game in a more convincing manner with a score of 21-15, in 19 minutes. The match finished in 40 minutes with the margin of 21-17 and 21-15.
In the semi-final of the event, Peter Gade will play against the winner of the other quarter-final match between Chen Jin of China and Sho Sasaki of Japan.
