Peter Hoeg Gade crushes Kenichi Tago in the round of 16 in the All England Open Premier Super Series
Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade crushed Japan’s Kenichi Tago, in a round-of-16 match of the All England Open Premier Super Series 2011, at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England today. The number four seed Danish shuttler consumed only 41 minutes to
win the match in straight sets against the Japanese, who thrashed Przemyslaw Wacha of Poland, in straight games in the first round of the event.
Peter Gade started the first set with his usual smooth and attacking style. The former All England Champion remained ahead of the Japanese in the entire set. He is known for his powerful smashes and spinning net shots. Tago failed to match the accuracy and
shot selection of Peter Gade, who was manipulating the opponent at the net. At the interval of the first game, the Japanese remained trailing behind the Danish at 11-4.
After the break, Peter Gade continued the superb run and spared no chance for Tago to fight back in the game. The Danish won the opening set in just 18 minutes, with a stunning difference of 21-9.
In the second game, Tago, who was the finalist of this event last year, geared up the pace and remained close to the opponent. Both shuttlers were playing top quality badminton in the second game and it was the Japanese who took a narrow lead of 11-10, till
the one-minute-break.
After the one-minute rest, both players entertained the crowd with the attacking game by employing powerful smashes together with the tumbling net shots and strong pushes. The score reached at 15-15, when the Danish scored three consecutive points to make
it an 18-15 lead. Tago worked very hard to come back in the game and leveled the score at 20-20.
At this critical stage, Peter Gade utilized his extensive experience and scored two points in a row and consequently won the set by a tight margin of 22-20, by spending 23 minutes in the court. The concluding score of this 41-minute match was 21-9 and 22-20.
In the quarterfinal, the fourth seed Danish will be playing against the number five seed Chen Long of China, who enjoyed a walkover against Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, in the round-of-16.
