Peter Hoeg Gade fails to deliver in his last appearance at Malaysia Open – Badminton news
Denmark’s legendary shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, failed to deliver a good performance in his last appearance at the Malaysia Open Super Series, which is in progress at National Sports Complex, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Danish shuttler lost his second round contest to lower ranked Kenichi Tago of Japan and crashed out from the tournament. It was his last participation in Malaysia Open as he has already announced that he will quit from international badminton after the 2012 Olympic Games.
In the second round of Malaysia Open, Peter Gade was the favourite as his lower ranked opponent has never been so good against him. The Danish has always remained dominant against Tago in all of their previous head-to-head meetings.
However, the Japanese played flawless badminton this time and registered his first victory over the higher ranked Danish rival in a mouth-watering three-set contest.
The World Number Four Peter Gade won opening set of the match with a tight difference but lost his focus in the second game and lost it without putting up impressive show. In the deciding set of this fight, Tago did not spare any chance for Peter Gade to fight back in the match.
The Japanese bagged this three-set fight with a 19-21, 21-11 and 21-16 score on the board.
Peter Gade was not happy with his performance in the tournament as he did not expect an early loss especially when he had an easy draw.
He said, "I am frustrated. I was in better condition and did my best on court but it was not good enough. I've been struggling because of the tough schedule. I will not be competing for two months as I need the space to get my form back."
The Danish hero targets London Olympics where he wants to perform well as he has never won an Olympic title in his rich professional career.
Peter Gade said, "I am 35 and in order to sustain the pace, I need to use all my experience to achieve my goal. It will not be easy as the game is faster than before and one needs to be a complete player to do well."
On the other hand, the second-round winner, Tago, will now take on Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in the Men’s Singles quarter-final battle.
