Peter Hoeg Gade ousts Du Pengyu in Men’s Singles quarter-final of the Singapore Open Super Series
Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade crushed China’s Du Pengyu, in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, in Singapore. The encounter was held on June 17, 2011.
The first set progressed with the same speed, as both contenders implemented different strategies to put pressure on their opponent. The score reached at 9-9, where Gade, who is the most experienced Men’s Singles shuttler in the world of badminton, tried
to put more variations in his strokes and earned a two-point lead at 11-9, in the opening half of the set.
After the interval, the 34-year-old Gade stretched his lead by playing in his usual attacking style. The Danish is famous for his superb net play and he dominated the game by playing in the same area. He stretched the score-gap by reaching 18-12.
At this stage, Pengyu accelerated his speed to pick the tumbling net shots of his rival from the tape of the net. He reduced the lead by reaching at 15-18. However, the experienced Danish shuttler finished the set with a 21-15 margin in 21 minutes.
The second game was also thrilling in the start, where both players remained tied until 5-5. The Danish started to control the rallies and put more pressure on the Chinese, by reaching at 7-5. Pengyu was close to his senior opponent by playing with aggression.
Gade was leading the game by an 11-8 margin at the interval.
In the second part of the set, Gade maintained a good lead against the Chinese by playing at a high pace. The Danish left no gap for his challenger to score points and reached at 18-13. Pengyu score two successive points to decrease the gap at 15-18.
However, Gade, who is currently the World Number Five in the Men’s Singles rankings, finished the set by scoring three consecutive points with a margin of 21-15, in 26 minutes. The 47-minute straight-set quarter-final contest ended with a 21-15 and 21-15
score on the board.
In the semi-final of the event, Gade will be up against either China’s Lin Dan or Indonesia’s Simon Santoso.
