Peter Hoeg Gade ousts Du Pengyu to enter into quarter-final of China Open Premier Super Series
Denmark’s top shuttler Peter Hoeg Gade has penetrated into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating China’s Du Pengyu in the round-of-16 contest of the 2011 Li Ning China Open Premier Super Series, in China, on Thursday, November 24.
The World Number Four Peter Gade, who is the fourth seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event, had to dig deep to tackle the spirited Chinese opponent in a three set thrilling fight. The Danish took 67 minutes to chuck out Pengyu and entered into top-8
stage.
Peter Gade played well in the first set and won it with a good margin. However, in the following set, the Chinese put up stunning show and took the second set with a remarkable difference. In the final game, Peter Gade showed his class and bagged the final
set with a superb score.
The Danish opened his campaign against the Chinese in a dominating fashion. However, Pengyu also played well and levelled the score at 8-8. At this stage, fourth seed Danish geared up his speed and played with incredible precision. His perfect stroke placement
left no room for Pengyu to fight back in the set. The Danish won it with a decent score of 21-16.
The second set of this superb match was absolutely surprising when the Chinese cheered the home fans by playing top class game. The score was 6-6 when Pengyu started to accelerate his speed in all areas of the court and controlled the rallies with a superb
skill.
His impressive play spared no chance for the higher ranked Danish rival to come back in the game. Peter Gade failed to control the game in the whole set and lost it with a huge difference of 9-21.
In the final game, the Danish changed his strategy and started to play with precision. He dominated the game at the net and remained successful in maintaining pressure on his opponent. The impressive performance of the Danish earned him the deciding game
with a superb margin of 21-12. The overall result of this match was 21-16, 9-21 and 21-12.
In the quarter-final contest, Peter Gade will be up against Indonesia’s Simon Santoso, who defeated his compatriot Taufik Hidayat in the round-of-16 fight.
