Peter Hoeg Gade topples Sung Hwan Park in the Men’s Singles semi-final: 2011 India Open Super Series
Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade has defeated Sung Hwan Park of Korea in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 India Open Super Series, at New Delhi, India, on Saturday, April 30. The third seed, Gade consumed 45 minutes to thrash the Korean in a straight-set fight.
In the final showdown of the event, Gade will be up against either top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, or Hu Yun of Hong Kong.
In the opening set of the semi-final, Gade opened her campaign against the Korean in an attacking way. He kept his speed high and picked the bird very early in all corners of the court. Park remained struggling in finding the momentum and remained behind the Danish at 7-11, in the opening half of the game.
After the break, Gade continued his planned game and stretched the gap by reaching at 15-9. The Korean worked very hard to reduce the gap, but Gade was playing better badminton. The Danish finished up the opening set in 20 minutes with a good margin of 21-15.
Stung by the loss of the opening set, Park geared up his speed in the start of the second game and established a good lead of 5-1. Gade tried to level the score, but failed as Park was quicker this time. The Korean avoided the unforced errors and played positively that earned him a comfortable lead of 11-6.
After the break, the Danish worked really hard to find the gaps to score points. He remained patient in his play to avoid errors. His planned game against the Korean earned him five consecutive points and he levelled the score at 12-12. It was a superb fight between the two elite players who were playing the top class badminton.
Gade started to build pressure on the opponent by playing aggressively. For the first time in the entire second set, Gade built a three-point lead of 16-13. Park lost his focus and control over the rallies that spared an opportunity for the Danish to dominate the game.
Park played some wonderful strokes and reduced the gap by reaching at 19-20. However, Gade scored two consecutive pints and won the set with a decent margin of 21-19 in 25 minutes. The concluding score of this 45-minute straight-set match was, 21-15 and 21-19.
