Peter Hoeg Gade topples Takuma Ueda in the quarter-final: 2011 India Open Super Series
Denmark’s ace shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, has toppled Takuma Ueda of Japan in the Men’s singles quarter-final of the 2011 India Open Super Series, at New Delhi, on Friday, April 29.
The third seed of the event, Gade, took 43 minutes to throw out the Japanese who defeated Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong, in the round-of-16. In the semi-final, the Danish will fight against either second seeded, Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, or the sixth seeded,
Sung Hwan Park of Korea.
Gade started the game in his usual aggressive style against the Japanese and remained successful in establishing a good lead of 8-5. Takuma tried to control the pace of the game, but failed as the Danish was playing a perfect game. Gade was leading the opening
half of the first set with a comfortable margin of 11-6. After the break, Takuma accelerated his speed to tackle the fast game of the opponent. He played an attacking game and reduced the gap by reaching at 10-12.
Gade, who is considered one of the best shuttlers in the world, remained struggling at the net. The score was 12-13, when the Danish lifted up his speed and stretched his lead at 15-12. However the Japanese remained close by reaching 17-18, where Gade scored
two consecutive points to make it a 20-17 lead. Takuma delivered wonderful performance and levelled the score by taking three points in a row. The score was 21-21, where Gade scored the remaining points and won the set by a 23-21 margin, in 25 minutes.
In the second set, Gade established a wonderful lead of 11-4 proving that he belongs to a different class of the game. He remained far ahead of the Japanese and leaving no room for him to score points. Takuma worked hard to reduce the difference, but failed
as the defence of his opponent became stronger. The shot selection and execution of the Danish was perfect. He spent only 18 minutes to clinch the second set with a 21-10 margin. The concluding score of this quarter-final battle was 23-21 and 21-10.
