Peter Ingram leads Central Districts to strong position against Wellington: Plunket Shield

Central Districts reached 226 for the loss of just four wickets on day-one of their Plunket Shield match against Wellington, at the Basin Reserve in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 on Monday.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 won the toss for the visitors and he had no hesitation to bat first. The conditions were perfect for batting, as there was no moisture in the pitch, and the Central Districts batsman made most of the conditions.
Although the visitors expected a good start from their openers, George Worker failed to live up to the expectations of his team. The youngster got out after adding just three runs to the total.
This saw the 20-year-old Ben Smith walk out to the middle. The youngster, who was making his debut, played sensible cricket and didn’t disappoint his team-mates. Along with opener Peter Ingram, Smith constructed a brilliant 166-run partnership for the second
wicket. However, the debutant got out after scoring a promising half-century. He scored 58 runs with the help of 12 fours.
Seasoned campaigner Mathew Sinclair then joined Ingram in the middle and he started playing aggressive cricket. Sinclair struck four fours to reach 21 in quick time, but failed to carry onto the start he got to his innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Weston-c2674 was also unable to capitalise on the good start he got, as he was dismissed after adding just 15 runs to the total. However, the fall of wickets didn’t bother opening batsman Ingram, who made the most of the good batting conditions. He scored
an unbeaten 111 with the help of 13 fours and one massive six. The seasoned player will look to guide his team’s total above the 400-run mark when he comes out to bat on day-two.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-Cachopa-c49207 was the other not-out batsman at the close of the first day’s play. He was batting one two runs when the umpires called the session off. There is still some batting to come for the visitors, which will be a concern for Wellington.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Gillespie-c1904 and Grant Elliot, who scalped one wicket each.
The home team will be looking to pick up a few quick wickets in the first session of the second day’s play in order to restrict the visitors below 300. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 will look to bat once in this match and win it by an innings.
