Peter Kimlin’s time with Exeter Chiefs ends with knee injury
Australian international Peter Kimlin will leave the Exeter Chiefs and return to his parent club the Brumbies after he damaged knee ligaments in a training session on Monday 22 November.
Kimlin signed a three-month contract with Exeter in October, but he failed to make a huge impact at the club and only made three appearances before he suffered the knee injury.
The player’s deal was expected to end in January and the lock was then expected to return to Australia with the Brumbies for the start of the new season. However, the injury means he is unlikely to feature for the remainder of his deal and as a result, the
Brumbies have decided to recall the player.
Speaking to reporters, Kimlin said, "I'm pretty disappointed about what's happened, but it's just one of those things," he said. "I'll head back and get into pre-season, they've been back for three weeks, so hopefully my knee recovers well and I'll go from
there—I'm just trying to stay positive at the moment."
Exeter Chiefs director of rugby, Rob Baxter confirmed that the injury to Kimlin was bad luck and he expressed his regret that the player would return to his club. "It was a training ground incident, he clashed with a player on his own team in a game of touch
and sadly that is it for him now," Baxter said.
Exeter will have to make do without Kimlin, but they have adapted well to life in the Aviva Premiership.
The Chiefs were promoted last season and had been tipped to return to the Championship, but they have started the season brightly and have managed to beat the likes of Wasps and Gloucester already this season.
Exeter have won four of their eight games this season and have already taken huge strides in securing their place in next season's Aviva Premiership.
