Peter Lawrie appears on course to book his berth in the DP World Tour Championship
Peter Lawrie added another 68 to his scorecard on Friday, to take the share of the eighth position, entering the third round of the UBS Hong Kong Open.
The UBS Hong Kong Open is being played at the Hong Kong Golf Club, where a world-class line-up is vying for a share of the US$2million prize purse.
Lаwrie, who started the week ranked 60th in the Race to Dubai, appeared on the course to end the week with his berth booked for the seаson-ending DP World Tour Championship.
Entering this week, he was just €14,997 ahead of his closest rival in the money list, David Howell of England.
However, his strong performance in the first two rounds has strengthened his chances of making it into the 60-man field at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
“I came into the week in 60th position, which could be fortunate or unfortunate, depending on what way you look at it,” said the Irishman.
“I’ve been moving down the Rankings all the time over the last five weeks, after not getting into tournaments. So it’s quite difficult to get that out of your head this week”.
He added, “As I said to a few people at home, I have to try to play mind games with myself this week and try to get past it. I was in a similar position last year and managed to make Dubai, so hopefully we can get there again”.
The former Open de España champion got off to a slow start in the second round, as he parred five of the first six holes, while conceding a bogey on the fourth hole.
He then picked up pace and birdied each of the next two holes to reach the turn in one-under. Thereafter, he added another shot to his scorecard by birdying the 13th hole, to finish the day in four-under for the first two rounds.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website after completing his round, he said that he was pleased with his performance and expressed his wish of keeping the momentum going into the weekend.
