Peter Luczak and Adrian Ungur reach second round at the 2011 Barletta Open
Peter Luczak of Australia thrashed Ivo Klec 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday to make it through to the second round of 2011 Barletta Open in Italy.
The 31 year old dominated his opponent in all aspects of the game in a completely one sided match. Luczak broke the serve twice in the opening set and held on to his serve games to take the set score lead 1-0.
The second set tells a similar story as well. The Australian continued to pressurize his opponent with some high quality tennis not giving any room to Klec to play his shots. He made the serve break in the fifth game of the set
and then converted the very first match point to ensure a comfortable win after only 58 minutes of play.
Luczak’s serve was on target most of the time and earned him crucial points during the contest. He played aggressively from the baseline and smashed his forehands and backhands all over the court He committed minimal unforced errors
in the match and executed his game plan brilliantly. Luczak used the chips shots effectively to surprise his opponent. His defense was rock solid as well and allowed him to save certain break points.
Luczak landed a satisfactory 55 per cent on his first serve, converting 70 per cent of the points on it. He dominated the challenger in the serve return department as well converting nearly 60 per cent of the points on his opponent’s
serve games. He also made the most of the opportunities presented to him during the contest converting 5 out 5 break points. Klec on the other hand looked a bit out of sorts making critical mistakes and hence paid the price.
Luczak is the number two Aussie tennis player behind Hewitt. He broke into top 100 in 2009 following his continuous success in Challengers, winning three titles in four finals he played in that year. However, since then he has
not been to find his peak form and slipped to world number 165 in the ATP rankings. He would be hoping to change the course of his career by achieving better results here at Barletta.
Meanwhile, Adrian Ungur of Romania eased past Russian Yuri Schukin in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in his opening match at the Challenger Cup.
The Romanian tennis-pro started the match aggressively. He serve was supreme as he fired 5 aces in the match. He broke the serve on three occasions and capitalized on the psychological advantage he had gained to complete his win
in two sets.
The 26 year old will certainly be looking to continue his good form right through the tournament to lift the first title on the Challenger Tour.
