Australian qualifier, Peter Luczak won his clash against the local wildcard entrant, Alexander Sadecky, to clear the opening round of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad, being played at the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland,
on Monday afternoon.
It was an enthralling contest being played on the clay courts of Gstaad, with Luczak eventually winning after a two hour fifteen minutes sweating battle. The Australian settled the final scores at 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), to move into
the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
Sadecky appeared in absolute control of the game in the opening set but was completely outplayed by his opponent in the following set. Intense tennis was witnessed in the final set of the match, which was stretched to the tie breaker
round, with Luczak prevailing to seal victory in the end. Despite of firing 14 thudding aces and reeling off 46 out of 61 first serve points in the game, Sadecky finished the matchup on the losing end.
The Swiss took off the opening set with commanding belligerence and struck an early serve break to race to 3-0 lead. He delivered 68 per cent of his serve on target and secured 17 out of 26 first serve points in the first set.
A Further trade of serve breaks was seen in the seventh and eighth game from the two contestants but Sadecky closed out the opener at 6-3 to get one up in the contest.
Tide turned in the next set when the Aussie gathered up his pace to race past his opponent. Luczak coughed three double faults in the second set but collected 15 out of 18 first serve points to remain one step ahead of his opponent.
One break points conversion from the Australian in the sixth game proved enough for him to seal the second set at 6-3 and level the contest at one-all.
Both men traded two serve breaks each in the final set to dead lock the scores at 6-6, enforcing a tie breaker round in to play. Sadecky hung in the decider for a while before the Australian reeled off three consecutive points
to conclude victory at 7-6(4), to earn a place in the second round of Suisse Open Gstaad.
A hard task awaits Luczak in the following round, when he meets the second seeded Swiss contestant, Stanislas Wawrinka, for a place in the quarter-finals. Wawrinka received a bye to get direct access to the second round of the
tournament.
