Peter Luczak outplays Roman Vogeli to clear the qualifying rounds – Suisse Open Gstaad 2011
Fourth seeded in the qualifying round, Peter Luczak of Australia won his matchup against the eighth seeded Czech competitor, Roman Vogeli, to make it to the main draw of the 2011 Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad on Sunday afternoon.
Being played on the clay courts of the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland, Luczak displayed his brilliant tennis skills to registered a straight sets victory by settling the final scores at 6-4, 6-2, to make it into the
main rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament. Vogeli hung in the game for one hour and twenty eight minutes before he succumbed to the hard-hitting Aussie competitor in the second set.
The contest remained pretty one-sided, with Luczak dominating for most of the time in the game. The Australian serve remained unbroken in the entire contest, with Vogeli squandering away four break opportunities to finish on the
losing side. The Czech had a decent serve game but his bleak baseline defence was breached on numerous occasions by the fourth seeded Aussie, who magnificently reeled off 27 out of 32 first serve points in the matchup.
The opening set took off with commanding aggression from the Australian, who stung his first serve break of the day in the fifth game and then held serve to lead 4-2 early in the opener. Luczak’s serve reached merely 48 per cent
in the set but his points winning proficiency proved to be exceptional in the play. The Aussie secured 14 out of 15 first serve points in the opening set and successfully defended the two break points he faced from his opponent.
Vogeli failed to recover from the early damage caused by the break point conversion from his opponent and eventually surrendered the opening set at 4-6 to let Luczak one set up in the matchup. The fourth seeded Australian proved
even merciless in the following set, breaking early in the third game to lead 3-1. Luczak secured 13 out of 17 first serve points and a vital serve break in the fifth game sealed the second set in his name at 6-2. A total of 112 points were played in the matchup,
with Luczak winning 63 and Vogeli clinching 49 to lose the game.
Luczak’s victory over Vogeli earned him a place in the first round of the main draws of Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad, where he will face the local wildcard entrant, Alexander Sadecky.
