The Hertha Berlin centre-back has showed gratitude to Bayern on defeating Koln which has allowed them another chance of staying in the top division.
Hertha Berlin defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Niemeyer-c29791, has expressed his delight after his side managed to survive relegation scare at least for the time being. Berlin and Koln were involved in the intense relegation battle and had Koln even
squeezed out a draw against the Munich giants, the capital club could have come under immense pressure going into the game against Hoffenheim.

victory in the 90th minute.
This victory has presented Otto Rehhagel’s men with an opportunity to stay in the top flight by coming good against Fortuna Dusseldorf in the relegation playoffs. Niemeyer also was pleased at the fact that Koln lost to Bayern which
ensured their relegation from the top division else Berlin could have faced this scare.
While talking to bundesliga.de, the former Werder Bremen player further added: “Indeed. Bayern might just have earned themselves a few more Berlin fans for the DFB Cup final here, and they've earned it. Obviously we were aware,
and happy about the fact, that Bayern were leading at Köln. None of us expected them to be taking it easy there anyway, ahead of their two cup finals. But what mattered most was that we attended to our own business.”
On the other hand, the versatile player also commented on Ryan Babel’s red card which came as a blessing for the home side who desperately needed three points to ensure any chances of survival. “It was important for us to maintain
our focus after they went a man down. We knew the quality of football Hoffenheim can produce, and that they'd be looking to exploit any chances of their own,” Niemeyer concluded.
Berlin completed the 2011/12 Bundesliga season with 31 points at the 16th spot and will need to embarrass Dusseldorf in order to play in the top flight next season.
