The Hertha Berlin defensive midfielder has urged his side to put one last effort in the playoff to retain their berth in the top division.
Hertha Berlin centre back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Niemeyer-c29791, has expressed his desire to stay in the top division. He was talking after his side got better of Hoffenheim in the last league game by a 3-1 margin courtesy of a brace from Anis Ben-Hatira
and a solitary effort from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raffael-c30414.
Berlin desperately needed to win the game and in the meantime prayed for Koln’s defeat against Bayern Munich. If Koln had won against the Munich giants, Berlin could nearly have been relegated but as the things stand now, the capital
club will play the playoffs against Fortuna Dusseldorf which will decide the fate of either side.
Niemeyer mentioned that Berlin cannot afford to relax and instead need to put one last effort to ensure their survival in the Bundesliga. He admitted that the team is tired after a long and hectic season but insisted that the players
had put in such an effort to come this far and therefore deserves to stay in the top division.
In an interview to official Bundesliga website, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 U-21 international further added: “There's absolutely no grounds for us to be thinking we're safe yet. But I haven't given the play-offs any thought yet. The first thing
we had to do was get there, by winning this game. We've done that, now we can start looking ahead.”
The 28-year-old mused that this is going to be Berlin’s one last chance to avoid relegation and wished to see a whole-hearted effort from his side.
“It's been a long season. You can see that a lot of the lads are on their last legs. What we have to do now is gather our final reserves and try to make sure there's another football festival to celebrate. There's no other way
for that to happen than through total commitment. If you take your heart in your hands, you can see what you're capable of. I think that's the way I approach it,” the defender concluded.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 will take on 2. Bundesliga side, Fortuna Dusseldorf, in the playoffs and a winner will play next season in the top flight.
