Peter Richardson getting ready for the Dubai Desert Classic – Golf News
Carlisle professional golfer, Peter Richardson, started practicing on the Emirates Golf Club alongside legendary Fred Couples and former PGA Champion, Martin Kaymer prior to the start of the Dubai Desert Classic, at the Emirate Golf Club, scheduled from
February 9 to 12, 2012.
While talking to the media on Tuesday, 07 February 2012, he said that he was ready to take on the US Open champion Rory McIlroy, world number three Lee Westwood, and former PGA champion Martin Kaymer, as they are considered favourites to win the tournament.
“I know I can play well and there is no reason why I can’t be up there on the leaderboard come Sunday, but it is getting to grips with the situation,” the 27-year-old former county player said.
“It is a great opportunity to get experience of playing alongside big names and it is more a case of enjoying it rather than being intimidated by it. If I enjoy it, hopefully I’ll play well which will be a big bonus,” he continued.
“It is a fantastic chance to savour the atmosphere for myself rather than seeing a friend playing on the European Tour from behind the ropes,” he added.
Richardson is making his first ever start on the European Tour as he earned a spot in the tournament after placing second in the MENA Tour order of merit last year.
There is no doubt he has never played such a huge event in his past as he has spent most of his time playing small events on Euro Pro Tour.
However, most of the golf experts believe that he has the abilities and skills to turn out as a superstar in the tournament.
He has what it takes to be a talented golfer to tackle his competitors in big occasions.
He had been practicing hard with his professional golf teacher, Stuart Rafferty, and Steve Harrison, Eden Golf Club Director of golf, prior to coming to Dubai.
Richardson said that he is hoping to repeat what he did in the Sheikh Maktoum Dubai Open in October, 2011, and he is ready to take his opponents down in the event.
