Peter Sagan aiming the final general classifications at the Tour of Qatar 2012
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale is giving a tough competition to his German competitor Andre Greipel at the 2012 edition of the Tour of Oman.
The cyclist was only 2 seconds behind Greipel after the stage 3 classifications. He could not claim the top spot, despite his endless efforts during the 142.5 kilometre.
The Slovakian finished second during the fourth stage, which as a whole is considered as a good performance.
However, his main concern is the fact that Andre claimed the top spot and further extended his lead in the final classifications.
The German is now dominating the race with an overall lead of 6 seconds over Sagan. Nacer Bouhanni is currently holding the third spot after the stage 4 classifications.
The 22-year-old finished fifth during the opening stage of the race and improved his performance during the second stage.
He won the 140.5 kilometre chase to Wadi Dayqah Dam on February 15th to secure his first win of the 2012 season.
He briefed after crossing the finish-line, "It was a good finish for me but it's never easy to win, I went quite early because it seemed that the others were already starting their sprints. After that, it came as it came".
"In Qatar I did a race to get back into my rhythm, and in this race I could try and go for the win, so I'm very happy that it's arrived now," Sagan concluded.
He finished the Tour of Qatar at the 39th position with a total deficit of 3 minutes and 41 seconds behind the race leader Tom Boonen.
Tom Boonen stole the show with two stage victories and the points classifications in his bag.
Peter joined Team Liquigas-Cannondale team in 2010 and is continuing his third consecutive season with the team.
The Italian team is having a good season as Elia Viviani helped the side with a stage 6 win at the Tour de San Luis and also finished first at the Gran Premio della Costa Etruschi 2012.
Viviani claimed the top podium spot during the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria 2012, alongside bagging the first and the second stages at the race.
With two more stages to go at the ongoing Tour of Oman, the team’s General Manager Roberto Amadio is hopeful that Greipel can claim the overall classifications on Sunday.
