Peter Sagan leading the Tour de France point’s classifications
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale is enjoying a terrific run of form at the Tour de France with as many as three stages already in his back pocket.
The Slovakian currently leads the point’s classifications with a total number of 356 UCI points to his credit after the stage 15 classifications.
Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol is 102 points behind at the second spot with Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica GreenEdge further 49 points behind at the third position.
Sagan is targeting the overall point’s classifications at the three-week race and is ideally placed to receive the honours.
“I’m not certain of reaching Paris in the green jersey, but I’ve got a good advantage over André Greipel,” he told the Spanish news agency EFE.
“I was surprised that the other sprinters’ teams didn’t work to bring back the breakaway, but I was happy to see that. Now I know that the rest of the riders don’t want to fight with me [for the green jersey] any longer”.
“This is the Tour of my dreams, but I know that I’ve still got to improve a lot of things. I’ve got to get used to the fact that everyone will rider against me if I get into a break”.
The 22-year opened his 2012 winning account with a stage 2 victory at the Tour of Oman and continued his winning streak for the remaining stages of the race.
He won the points classifications at the Tour of Oman and the Tour of California and also occupied the bagged as many as 15 stages in the first half of the season.
Sagan won stages at the Tour de France, the Tour de Suisse, the Tour of California, the Three Days of De Panne, the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour of Oman.
The Slovakian occupied the second overall spot during the Gent-Wevelgem, third at the Amstel Gold Race, fourth at the Milan-San Remo and occupied the fifth overall position at the Tour of Flanders 2012.
