Peter Sagan satisfied with his podium finish at the Amstel Gold Race
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale is having a good season. His most recent performance came during the Amstel Gold Race 2012. He finished 2 seconds behind the race leader Enrico Gasparotto of Team Astana and occupied the third spot.
Enrico finished the race in the quickest time of 6 hours, 32 minutes and 35 seconds to bag one of the biggest wins of his 2012 season.
Jelle Vanendert of Team Lotto Belisol occupied the second position, with Sagan at the third spot.
While commenting on his podium finish at the Dutch Grand Tour, he noted, "If I had attacked just two seconds later, I would have finished in front of everyone".
“I faded only in the last metres. What a shame. I always race to win and to see the victory slip away in the last few metres makes me angry”.
“On the other hand, the podium at Amstel Gold Race is a very good result. The race finale was very difficult to interpret, there were a lot of riders and I had to observe many rivals," he concluded.
Sagan claimed his first victory of the 2012 season at the Tour of Oman by bagging the 2nd stage of the race. He also succeeded during the point’s classifications of the event.
The 22-year-old also bagged stages at the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Three Days of De Panne. He finished 2nd during the Gent-Wevelgem, 3rd at the Amstel Gold Race, 4th Milan-San Remo and 5th at the Tour of Flanders.
The Slovakian has now jumped up to the second overall position on the UCI Individual rankings as of April 2012. He claimed 229 UCI points during the first quarter of the season.
Tom Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is leading the classifications, with 366 points in his pocket.
Sagan will now test his legs at the remaining two races of the Ardennes Classics, La Fleche Wallonne and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2012.
The two Belgian races are scheduled on April 18 and April 22, and winners will be rewarded with 80 and 100 UCI points, respectively.
Sagan will be accompanied by his team-mate Vincenzo Nibali at the Belgian grounds which will strengthened the team’s chances at the race.
