Peter Sagan strengthened his lead at the Tour de France point’s classifications
Peter Sagan continuous his tremendous 2012 form and secured yet another victory at the Tour de France.
The Slovakian is enjoying a terrific season and has bagged as a dozen stage victories in the earlier part of the season.
He claimed stages at the Tour of Oman, the Tirreno-Adriatico, The Three Days of De Panne, the Tour of California and the Tour of Suisse before marking his appearance at the Tour.
Sagan finished first during his National Road Race Championships, second at the Gent-Wevelgem, third at the Amstel Gold Race, fourth at the Milan-San Remo and occupied the fifth overall spot at the Tour of Flanders.
Sagan has already claimed three stages at the most esteemed cycling race of the season, the Tour de France.
Winning a stage at any other cycling event is one thing but doing it at the French Grand Tour is a different story altogether mainly because of the level of competition that the race brings with it.
All the top cyclists from across the globe gather to ride the three-week race in France which leaves no room of error for the top contenders.
Peter overcame Andre Greipel during the stage 6 of the Tour de France and registered his third win at the French race.
"I was very happy when I won today because I was also surprised," Sagan said, after winning the race at Metz.
"I was thinking before for second or third place".
"Today was a very good arrival because the last turn was inside the final kilometre".
"After the turn we were always increasing in speed.
“It's not good for me when we spend the last 5km in a line at 60-70kph because I can't go past, but when we go a little bit slow and then you go faster, it's good".
The 22-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Liquigas-Doimo in 2010 and has stayed with the team by the end of 2012 season.
Sagan currently leads the stage 6 point’s classifications with as many as 209 UCI points to his credit.
Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica GreenEdge, Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol, Mark Cavendish of Team Sky and Alessandro Petacchi of Team Lampre-ISD are holding the next four points after the stage 6 point’s classifications.
