Peter Sagan to start his 2013 campaign at the Milano-Sanremo 2013
After marvellous 2012 season, Peter Sagan is all set to resume his superb form in the season ahead as he eyes the Milan-Sanremo as the first goal of the new season.
The cyclist has no plans of riding the Paris-Roubaix and the world road championships with all his attention towards the Italian race.
He told Gazzetta, "I've been doing more or less the same things for three years. I've always improved and so I don't want to change too much for now".
"It's a real race, it'll be a big battle with Boonen," he predicted. "After that I'll ride the Tour of Oman, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders, Ghent-Wevelgem and the Amstel Gold Race."
"Milan-Sanremo is my first goal because it's the first Classic, while Flanders and Roubaix are the races I dream about winning. I'd love to win the world title one year too but the course in Florence is too tough for me this time".
The Slovakian had a terrific 2012 season and filled his bag with several top performances throughout the year.
His biggest win of the season came during the Tour de France 2012, with three personal stage victories and the top point’s classifications spot along with the most aggressive rider award during the stage 14 of the race.
The 22-year-old bagged stages and the point’s classifications at the Tour of California and Tour de Suisse along with individual stage victories at the Tirreno-Adriatico and Three Days of De Panne 2012.
The cyclist finished second at the Gent-Wevelgem, third at the Amstel Gold Race, fourth at the Milan-San Remo and fifth at the Tour of Flanders 2012 and is in supreme form to take on the 2013 season at the Milan San Remo 2013.
The Italian event is the longest one-day race that stretches up to 298 kilometres, with its roots going back to 1907.
It is considered as one of the monuments of European cycling and is also included at the UCI World Rankings in 2007.
It will be interesting to see if Sagan finds the right momentum in the season ahead as he gets ready for the Milan San-Remo 2013.
