Peter Sagan wins the fourth stage of the Tirreno- Adriatico 2012
Peter Sagan helped Team Liquigas-Cannondale with the fourth stage victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico, while Christopher Horner grabbed the overall lead after the stage 4 classifications.
Sagan crossed the mountain stage in the fastest time of 7 hours, 24 minutes and 50 seconds to grab the stage victory.
Roman Kreuziger, Vincenzo Nibali, Danilo Di Luca and Christopher Horner finished at the second, third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Sagan took full advantage of the support given by his team and stayed in the front throughout the day. The Slovakian was overwhelmed after the stage win and appreciated his team efforts during the race.
He noted, "Today we gave so much as a team and it was important to win. On the final straight I heard they were catching up and at that moment I thought only of the good of the team: not winning would be a great sin".
"I'm sorry for Vincent, we are a united group and among us there are absolutely no problems. Tomorrow we will have a hard stage and I'll be at his disposal to help him," he concluded.
He joined the Italian side, Team Liquigas in 2010 and helped the team with a number of victories during his stay.
Sagan secured his first season’s victory during the second stage of the Tour of Oman and also claimed the point’s classification at the race.
He grabbed a total number of 12 points after the stage, while Roman Kreuziger and Vincenzo Nibali claimed the second and the third positions respectively.
Manuele Boaro and Pavel Brutt achieved the first and the second sprints of the race, while Stefano Pirazzi and Peter Sagan grabbed victories at the mountains categories.
Chris Horner of Team RadioShack-Nissan extended his lead to 7 seconds over Roman Kreuziger.
Cameron Meyer, Peter Sagan and Danilo Di Luca achieved the next four positions after the stage 4 classifications.
Team Astana, Team Vacansoleil-DCM and Team Katusha are the top three teams at the Team’s classifications.
With three more stages to go, Chris Horner is now targeting the overall classifications. He is optimistic to claim the top podium spot on the final day at the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
