Peter Sagan wins the second stage of the Amgen Tour of California 2012
Its two out of two for Peter Sagan as the Slovakian has bagged yet another victory at the Amgen Tour of California.
The cyclist started the race with a stage 1 win at the event and has shown a terrific display of his abilities during the 188.5 kilometre stage 2 of the race.
He completed the race in a quickest time of 5 hours and 2 minutes and occupied the top podium spot for the second consecutive day at the Californian race.
Sagan was completely matchless during the final kilometre of the race as he sailed across the finish line in a lightning speed.
He has now picked up his sixth cumulative victory at the Italian race and is looking ahead to continue his dominance at the overall classifications.
Peter told the media after crossing the finish line, "With two climbs in the end of the stage today, I am really happy to win".
"I was thinking when I was still in the front group on the last climb I would try and win another stage”.
“I knew the last corner was close to the finish so I decided to take the turn from the first position, and I won the stage".
"I'm very happy with this Tour of California. It is starting very well for me. I would like to say thank you to my team for the good work they did for me”.
Heinrich Haussler of Team Garmin-Barracuda finished at the second position while Leigh Howard of Team Orica-GreenEdge and Koen De Kort of Team Argos-Shimano achieved the third and the fourth positions respectively.
Sagan has now extended his overall lead at the event and is now determined and the Slovakian is leading the category with a healthy margin of 8 seconds over Heinrich Haussler of Team Garmin-Barracuda.
Leigh Howard of Team Orica-GreenEdge, Jeffry Louder of UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team and Fred Rodriguez of Team Exergy are holding the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
The 22-year-old is now eyeing the 185.5 kilometre stage of the Tour of California and the cyclist is determined to continue his overall dominance at the coming stages of the race.
